Wine Whims is a the byproduct of the beginnings of the next stage of my life. As a forty-something (and I’ve decided to freeze the forties for now) with empty-nesting on the horizon, it’s becoming apparent I’ll have some time for myself.
What to do? Thoughts of kid crafts, redecorating, housekeeping and cooking comfort foods flutter away like a light breath on those little white downy feathers that are left behind in that nest. Nope. Until I’m called Grandma, I’ll leave the apron in the drawer.
So what do I love? (Besides my husband and children, of course.) I love wine. I love to smell wine. I love to taste wine. I love to read about wine. I love wine in history. I love the history of wine. And most of all… I love to drink wine.
The exploration and experience of wine deliver invitation to travel, try new foods, socialize with friends old and new, and laugh. But, what I find most gratifying about wine is the opportunity to pause, breath, taste and become still. Turning off everything but the sensations of the present to explore the moment. Tuning out the banter of media, silencing the buzz of traffic, and flipping the sign on the 9-to-5 to just BE.
Wine Whims is my impulsive adventure into a better understanding of life and wine. You won’t find me aiming for a title like Sommelier. Not a chance. (I had to use spellcheck just to add the word here.) But I do want to know more why’s about wine. Like:
- Why is the same wine from one year better than another?
- Why do I have to have white wine with fish when I really love big reds. (I don’t even know what “big” means, that’s just what my favorite bartender and husband tell me I like. LOL)
- Why do I taste chocolate in one wine and puppy slobbered tennis shoes in another?
I welcome the opportunity to learn these things and more. And I am happy to have you along.
